Great point on community. Early in my career I was all in on Qlikview, mainly because of the vast community support. But even the community support couldn’t change the fact that there’s too much to learn in Qlik; I found my time better spent learning more ephemeral languages like Python and SQL.

The case for Tableau is different. It’s an inferior product in so many ways but their strategic partnerships propelled them to the top.

As for new(er) players, I like Superset, Looker and Sigma a lot. The problem with these new tools is that they lean heavily into modeling/transformation engines and less on visualization. This only exacerbates issues of data sprawl and forming a “single source of truth” which many companies struggle to achieve as it is. Hoping one of them strikes a better balance and leads us into the future 🤞
